Please hop over at my new (free!) Substack blog and join the conversation. What things did I accurately foresee? What things did I foresee that have not played out? What big things did I miss? Now, exactly 25 years later, I'm publishing this talk for the first time, with commentary, so we all can see how well I did. That night, in addition to providing the audience a look at the new world of e-commerce that was already springing up around them, still mostly out of their sight, I made some bold predictions about the future, including some of the troubling implications for our longstanding economic and social contracts. In my first column on #substack, I begin a series that looks back at "Whither Humanity," a public lecture I gave at Emory University in May 1998, when I was an associate professor of #decision sciences and program dean at Emory University - Goizueta Business School. Every day now, we see chatter about #ChatGPT, #generativeai, #ai-authored fiction (and newsletters and blogs and illustrations and even music).
